Burna Boy’s ‘City Boy’ Goes Platinum in France, Extending His Record as Nigeria’s Most Certified Artist

Grammy-winning superstar Burna Boy has added another impressive accolade to his growing list of international achievements. His hit single ‘City Boy’ has officially been certified platinum by SNEP (Syndicat National de l’Édition Phonographique), marking his ninth platinum-certified song in France.
This latest milestone not only highlights Burna Boy’s sustained popularity in the French music market but also solidifies his status as the most certified Nigerian artist in France. It is yet another testament to his global appeal and unmatched consistency in delivering international hits.
Released as one of the standout singles from his seventh studio album ‘I Told Them’, “City Boy” has enjoyed strong commercial performance, particularly in France. Burna Boy’s influence in the country was further underscored in 2024 when he made history by selling out the 80,000-capacity Stade de France, becoming the first African artist to achieve this feat. That same year, he also became the first artist to cover Billboard France Magazine, a milestone that echoed his widespread acclaim across Europe.
Burna Boy’s catalogue of SNEP-certified tracks in France includes diamond plaques for global smash hits ‘Last Last’ and ‘On The Low’. He’s also earned platinum certifications for ‘Gbona’, ‘YE’, and now ‘City Boy’, while ‘Alone’, ‘For My Hand’ featuring Ed Sheeran, and ‘Anybody’ have all gone gold.
His latest SNEP platinum plaque also comes shortly after ‘Donne-Moi L’accord’, his 2019 collaboration with French star Dadju, received a platinum certification. The song has racked up more than 50 million streams on Spotify, contributing to Burna Boy’s dominance in the Francophone music space.
So far in 2025, the African Giant has kept the momentum going. He recently received an RIAA Gold certification in the United States for ‘Alone’, a track from the ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtrack. These achievements continue to build excitement for his highly anticipated eighth studio album, ‘No Sign of Weakness’, expected later this year.
Ahead of the album release, Burna Boy has already dropped five singles, including his most recent effort ‘Tatata’, a Brazilian funk-inspired track featuring American rap superstar Travis Scott.
As he prepares to unveil his new project, Burna Boy aims to extend the remarkable commercial run that has seen his last four albums earn Grammy nominations. He also remains the only Nigerian artist with three albums surpassing 500 million streams on Spotify, further underscoring his legendary status in the global music industry.
